Dawntreader Quest Guide
If you’ve made it to Paradis in Avowed, chances are you’ve already stumbled into
one of the more morally messy early side quests: “Dawntreader.”
On the surface?
Recover a relic.
Find a missing expedition.
Talk to a glowing godlike zealot.
Simple.
Except it’s not.
This is one of those quests where the game makes you feel like your choice carries
massive divine weight — so let’s break down what actually happens, what matters,
and what’s just dramatic Eothas energy.
How to Start “Dawntreader”
Head to the Southern Paradis Administration District and find Ofryc outside the Aedyran Embassy.
He’ll:
Tell you about a godlike Oracle.
Send you north to Pilgrim’s Path.
Point you toward his brother Caedmon and the Aedyran Expedition.
Boom. Quest started.
Getting to the Eothasian Temple
Travel north to the Northern Farms region.
If you’ve unlocked the beacon near Pilgrim’s Path, use it — save yourself the hike.
Inside the temple:
First Puzzle
Two essence generators.
Hit the inactive one with shock damage (electric spell or lily seed).
Door opens.
Skeletons appear (because of course they do).
Loot. Read the Book of Verses. Move left.
Temple Tips
Stick to right walls in upper sections.
Burn webs to reveal tunnels.
Smash vases near the Splinter altar — there are hidden paths.
Shoot essence generators across cracks to unlock shortcuts.
Unbar doors whenever possible to create loopbacks.
There’s solid lore here too:
History of the Living Lands IV
On the Binding of Souls
Statue schematics that foreshadow what’s coming
This isn’t filler. It sets up the moral dilemma.
Finding the Aedyran Expedition (Optional — But Do It)
After grabbing the relic, the temple partially floods.
To find the expedition:
Cross the tree root.
Climb the ledges.
Duck through a low tunnel.
Drop through a hole.
Walk behind a curtain.
You’ll find what’s left of the team.
Talk to Kai. Read the nearby book.
It adds context and makes the Oracle confrontation hit harder.
Confronting Sargamis – Attack or Help?
Here’s where players hesitate.
You’ll meet Sargamis, the Oracle of Eothas. He wants the relic returned to the statue.
You have three real paths.
Option 1: Lie and Say You Don’t Have It
Nothing dramatic happens.
He just stands there. Waiting.
You can leave and finish the quest.
Safe. Clean. Minimal involvement.
Option 2: Attack Sargamis
Fight includes:
Fire Blight minions (annoying, not deadly).
Moderate difficulty encounter.
Loot:
Last Light of Day +2 (sword)
He dies.
Option 3: Help Him
You:
Insert relic.
Pull lever.
Watch him sacrifice himself.
Activate workstation.
It fails.
He dies anyway.
You still get:
Last Light of Day +2
What Actually Matters?
Mechanically?
Almost nothing changes.
Whether you fight him or help him, he ends up dead and you get the same weapon.
The difference is purely narrative tone.
The Bigger Choice: The Voice & The Statue
After Sargamis dies, the mysterious Voice speaks through an adra crystal.
It wants the statue.
You can:
Give the Voice the Statue
Insert relic.
Purge energy.
No immediate reward.
Feels like a long-game narrative choice.
Destroy the Statue
Overload three essence generators.
Statue explodes.
Voice is upset.
No immediate reward difference.
So What Should You Do?

DecisionRecommendationWhySargamisHelp himCleaner RP, same lootVoiceDestroy statueNo confirmed benefit yetExpeditionAlways completeAdds story weight
Helping Sargamis feels tragic and layered.
Destroying the statue feels pragmatic.
Until the game proves otherwise, that’s the balanced route.
Final Reward
Return to Ofryc in Paradis.
You receive:
Delver’s Caution (Ring)
Solid early-game utility.
Final Thoughts
“Dawntreader” is classic Avowed design:
Lore heavy
Morally gray
Mechanically subtle
Emotionally loud
It feels like a huge divine moment — but under the hood, it’s more about who you want your character to be than what loot you get.
And honestly?
That’s good RPG design.
