Sony x LEGO PS1 Set Revealed at State of Play — Everything We Know
PS State of Play Goes LEGO!
Look, State of Play dropped a lot today but none of it mattered to me the second Sony and LEGO announced the most nostalgic collab of our lives!
The Set
Sony and LEGO officially revealed the LEGO PlayStation set, and it is exactly the kind of unhinged nostalgia bait that works 100% of the time on people like me. We're talking 1,911 pieces, a 1:1 scale replica of the original console, a build-out controller, and a lid on the disc tray that actually opens and closes — which, sure, is a little bittersweet timing given Sony's already confirmed disc production wraps in 2028, but let's not think about that right now.
Here's the part that actually got me: crack the console open and there are two full dioramas hiding inside. One's a Gran Turismo scene with a mini track and scaled-down cars. The other is an Ape Escape island setup, complete with a swappable blue or red light on the monkey's helmet, because somebody at LEGO clearly gets it. Sony's Steffi Steffen said the whole thing was designed to surface "hidden details from PlayStation's history," and yeah, it shows. This isn't a licensed cash grab with a logo slapped on a box — it's a genuine love letter to the console that started everything.
When You Can Get It
The set launches October 1, 2026. Based on how fast the NES, Atari, and Game Boy LEGO sets vanished, I would not sleep on this one. Set a reminder, tell your friends, do whatever you need to do.
Why This Is My Personal Number One
The original PS1 and Super Nintendo are the reasons I got into gaming and why I do any of this. Gran Turismo taught me patience that I still don't fully have, Metal Gear pushed my brain to the limits, and God of War taught me that Zeus is a dick. Playstation has shown time and time again that their Sony Exclusives are unbeatable! (Sorry XBOX But Halos all ya got). Getting to physically build a piece of that history, hidden dioramas and all, hits different than another trailer drop, no matter how good the trailer is.
Everything else from today's State of Play was great. This is the one I'm actually buying.
